Creating Hiring Processes for New Businesses is the culmination of a year-long Tech Writing certification program at De Anza College. I created this 50-page manual over the course of about eight week completely in Framemaker. In this course, each student is both subject matter expert and writer--expert in one topic and writer for a different topic. The process of creating this manual was arduous to say the least, but each document in the development cycle shows the quality of work I can create in a short span of time. This is a document I am extremely proud of and I am happy to say that it is released here in its entirety under a Creative Commons license. After starting my internship at Blue Coat Systems, I wanted to show I could create a document in Framemaker but did not want to use anything proprietary to the company. I took the directions for the 2009 Shasta Snow Trip, which was an unformatted, rambling Word document, and adapted to Framemaker. I followed the directions in Google Maps and used Snagit 9.1 to take screenshots of the more difficult directions. While I've learned more about creating quality documents in Framemaker, I am still proud of this piece as my first complete document in the program. Shasta Snow Trip Directions PDF. I wrote this Functional Description of the workings of a BIC pen for one of my first Technical Writing courses. The task was to pick an object and describe only how it works, not how the end user can manipulate it. I originally wanted to describe an aircooled engine, but settled on the BIC pen as it was so much simpler! While the document is pretty straightforward, my professor asked for a copy of the final paragraph to use as an example for future classes. Functional Description PDF. The following end user document was the culminating project in my first Technical Writing course at De Anza College. Because of my own intrinsic interest in CB radio (and because I was planning to install a new one in my car), it only made sense to me to design How to Install Your New CB Radio. The project taught me many things about keeping the audience in mind and anticipating their questions before they think to ask them. Installing Your CB Radio PDF. I really enjoyed creating this proposal for my second Technical Writing course. The idea was to write a proposal offering a service we actually know something about. I know old VWs, so it seemed natural to create a proposal offering restoration services. The complete project included both financial and time budgeting worksheets. While the content is fictional, the experience of creating a detailed business proposal is quite real. Proposal Document PDF.
