"Tell me about yourself."

That has to be the toughest task for any writer. What on Earth would you want to know about me? Well, I was born and raised in San Jose. Went to school here, still live and work here, and so long as I can afford it, will continue to live here for the forseeable future.

In many ways, I am the child of an artist and a tinkerer. I love just looking at things for their beauty and love taking them apart to see how they work. While simplicity brings with it a certain elegance, there is part of me that revels in the idea of function over form. Half of me enjoys screaming "Who cares what it looks like! It runs!"

The tinkerer's side in me is both perfectionist and mad scientist. I can spend far more time than necessary editing and re-editing a piece of documentation until I get it just right. I also enjoy taking old, incongruous items and creating something new from them. I suppose it's why I drive an old VW bus. It's clunky, slow, and noisy, but it makes me acutely aware of everything that's going on within its machinatons. No noise canceling driver's compartments for me!

The artist's side in me is always looking out for the aesthetic. For some, they can be trained to see it; to others it comes naturally. I suppose I am a bit of both. No formal training save for experiential learning. There is clearly a beauty in something simple. Anything that both functions well while being clear and simple...well, there is a purity and power that comes with it!

That's truly my goal with all the work I create. I aim for that ideal of a clear, simple end product that gets across whatever message is required of it.

But look at me, I'm marketing myself here. I thought my mission statement is supposed to do that.

I really enjoy music, it keeps me sane. I try to be as zen as possible, that doesn't always work. I need at least one cup of coffee in the morning, hazelnut creamer required. I love to read, I'm not well-balanced unless I read fiction for at least 30 minutes a day. There is an enjoyment in driving, but typically on empty mountain roads. I'm not afraid of rust, it shows my bus has a history. I am afraid of needles; the pokey things, not the desert town. I love working with people, I'm very outgoing.
